Music to our ears

The sound of music resonates through the school hallway as our kindergarten through fifth grade classes rotate through their music lessons with Mr. Jason Jeffrey, Annunciation School’s music instructor. Melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and expression are the five elements of music being introduced to the students through activities, games, and lessons. As the year progresses, students will learn to read and write music notation and notes, form opinions about different works of music and understand patterns in music through listening. Because music is an important part of our Catholic liturgy, Mr. Jeffrey will also be teaching about the different parts of the liturgy, Mass songs, and how music ties in with the scripture readings.

Mr. Jeffrey’s passion for music evolved at age five when he began taking weekly piano lessons and singing with the adult church choir. Over the years, his love of piano and choir led him to the University of the Pacific where he received his bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance, with an emphasis on classical music. Since 2010, Mr. Jeffrey has been playing regularly for Catholic Church Masses and continues to be actively involved in the Cathedral’s music ministry program, giving glory to God during weekend Masses and church programs. Music has always been a part of Mr. Jeffrey’s life and we are fortunate to have him share his love of music and God with our students.
